About me:
I work as a scientist in the Physical Oceanography 2
group at the Leibniz-Institut for Marine Sciences in Kiel. As a student, most of my work
was done in the projects SFB 460 A3. Calibrating CTD and
vmADCP data was my main topic. While doing this, I have also come in contact with other
projects like MOVE, SOLAS and CARINA (CARbon dioxide IN the Atlantic
Ocean).
In summer 2002 I started working on my diploma thesis, which has the title " Quality Control of Profiling Float Data in the Subpolar North Atlantic". 37 floats were launched in the
framework of the EU funded project GYROSCOPE in the northeast
Atlantic, as a contribution to the global float project ARGO. As part
of my diploma thesis I took care about these floats. This work
included tracking of these floats and software maintenance for all
the software used, as well as scientific interpretation of the
results.
Currently I am a research scientist at Leibniz-Institut of Marine Sciences and develop methods for quality control of float data.
Projects:
GyroScope:
This project uses profiling floats in the North
Atlantic, and I have been involved in data processing during the
initial phase of the project. More recently, I have looked at instrument
calibration, performance and first scientific questions.
SFB (Sonderforschungsbereich) 460: This research initiative is concerned with the global thermohaline circulation and its aspects in the North Atlantic. Most of my work is done in the sub-project A3.
CLIVAR / MOVE: CLIVAR (Climate Variability and Predictability) is an international research program on natural and anthropogenic climate change. MOVE (Meridional Overturning Variability Experiment) is a German contribution to it, featuring monitoring of the meridional overturning in the tropical Atlantic off the Caribbean Sea.
BALTEX/ BASEWECS: As part of BALTEX (Baltic Sea Experiments), sub-project C of BASEWECS (Baltic Sea Water and Energy Cycle Study) carries out research cruises into the Western Baltic. These cruises are combined with a practical student course in oceanography, and I have joined some of these cruises as an assistant (the course is called Praktikum der physikalischen Ozeanographie).
Here are some of my pages:
I added a page about moored arrays used for oceanography.
I added a page about me.
I added a page about my publications.
